Derby County travel to Luton Town on Tuesday night looking to maintain their recent up turn in form in the Championship and to end their wait for a success on their travels in the league.

Phillip Cocu’s side are unbeaten in their last four Championship matches and have secured ten points from their last four league games, including registering a 1-0 win at home to Hull City last time out in the league, before they were held to a goalless draw at League Two Northampton Town in the FA Cup on Friday.

That means that the Rams have been able to lift some of the pressure that had been building following a run of seven matches without a win in the Championship, and with Derby still facing a potential points deduction they could be needing to secure as many points as possible to avoid getting dragged into a relegation battle.

Derby, though, despite their recent improvements in form have still failed to win a single match on their travels in the Championship since securing a 2-1 win at Huddersfield Town on the opening day of the campaign, although they are unbeaten in their last four away games in all competitions.

Luton, meanwhile, head into the game in real need of picking up all three points, with the Hatters currently eight points adrift of safety following a run of eight matches without a win and they have lost seven of those games including losing 3-1 at Nottingham Forest last time out.

QUIZ: Can you remember the score from Derby County’s first 12 games of this season?

Here then, we take a look at the starting XI that Cocu should select for the Rams’ trip to Luton…

Having made plenty of changes to his starting line-up for the Rams’ trip to Northampton in the FA Cup fourth round last time out, Cocu should revert back towards a similar side and shape to the one which secured a vital three points against Hull at Pride Park last time out in the league.

Ben Hamer should return in goal in place of Kelle Roos, with the keeper having been left out of the side for the trip to Northampton, and he will be looking to secure back to back clean sheets in the Championship to further strengthen his position as the Rams’ first choice keeper.

Jayden Bogle was also rested for the FA Cup clash at Northampton, but should come back into the side down the right-hand side of the Rams’ defence, and his ability to get forwards on the overlap from right-back could be key to causing Luton problems, while Max Lowe should also come back in for Scott Malone at left-back.

Cocu has a decision to make over who to pair with Matt Clarke at the heart of the Rams’ defence, with Andre Wisdom having delivered a strong performance in that position against Hull last time out in the league, and that should see him start ahead of Curtis Davies against Luton.

Derby could also revert back to the midfield pairing of Duane Holmes and Tom Huddlestone, with the pair both delivering effective performances against Hull, which would see both Max Bird and Louie Sibley drop back down to the bench after starting at Northampton.

That would enable Cocu to again play Wayne Rooney further forwards, as the Dutchman looks to get the former England international influencing things in the attacking third of the field, while both Tom Lawrence and Jason Knight should start down the left and right-hand sides of the Rams’ attack.

Up front, Cocu should recall Martyn Waghorn back into the starting line-up after the forward delivered a strong performance against Hull last time out, and that would mean Jack Marriott dropping back down to the bench.
