Charlie Austin has remembered scoring his first Premier League hat-trick whilst at Queens Park Rangers.

December 2014, and Harry Redknapp's QPR are 2-0 down to West Brom at Loftus Road. The club was looking at a lengthy battle with relegation after New Year, but a hat-trick from Austin restored some Christmas faith, and temporarily lifted QPR out of the drop zone.

The striker went on to score 18 Premier League goals that season as QPR finished bottom, before heading to Southampton midway through the next.

Footage of that hat-trick against his current club emerged on Twitter yesterday, and Austin shared this message:

It's a mean feat to score that many goals in what was the worst team in the league that season, and it asserted Austin as one of the most natural poachers in English football.

His time at Southampton didn't go as planned and today he finds himself at West Brom, but occupying the bench much of the time.

He's still managed to score eight Championship goals this season and play an important role in Slaven Bilic's squad, but his days of Premier League hat-tricks seem distant.

With QPR, Austin hit his career best form. He scored 48 goals in 89 games and became a huge fan favourite in the process, leaving them with countless memories.

The verdict

A quality striker in his day, and his record in that 2014/15 season is one of the most underrated achievements in the game. Fans would've liked to see him become West Brom's main man this season, but he's played his role, and could yet have another shot at the big time.
