Mark Warburton has a decision to make before his Queens Park Rangers side travel to Hull this weekend, and that’s who will be starting in goal for the West Londoners - Joe Lumley or Liam Kelly?

QPR started the season with Joe Lumley as the number one. Lumley became the first-choice keeper for Steve McClaren half-way through last season, and held his own to find himself as Warburton’s number one too.

But with QPR still without a clean sheet this season, Lumley was dropped in favour of summer signing Liam Kelly.

He was one of 14 signings made by QPR in the summer, with the 23-year-old joining from Livingston for an undisclosed fee.

Kelly has started the last two games in the Championship for QPR - a 3-0 loss away at Cardiff City, a 4-2 win at home to Blackburn Rovers which took them to within a point of the play-offs for the international break.

Conceding five goals in his first two games, Kelly’s first experience of Championship hasn't been ideal.

At times in South Wales, he looked slightly nervous, flailing after the ball for their first goal, but not really to blame for the following two.

Lumley, on the other hand, has a decent bit of experience at this level, albeit sporadically with QPR in the last four seasons. But he featured 24 times in the league for QPR last year, and that experience will bode well for him as he contends with Kelly.

Picking between the two will be a struggle for Warburton. Lumley did come under some scrutiny last season, where he forced his way into the first-team in favour of Matt Ingram early on.

Kelly could deal Lumley the same outcome though if he’s impressed his manager over the international break. These two weeks will have been vital to any manager in regrouping after a decent number of fixtures, and reassessing what the best team and system is.

Realistically, though, Lumley is probably the better option for the Hull game this weekend. Kelly hasn’t amazed in his first two games but fans know that Lumley has that capability in him, even if his form does fluctuate.

Whoever Warburton starts in goal, he’ll have to show faith in them. QPR need a regular goalkeeper to instil some much-needed organisation to their defence, who’ll continue their search for a clean sheet on the Humber this weekend.
