Before Garry Monk was appointed, it was looking bleak at Birmingham City, to say the least.

When Monk was appointed, Birmingham were sitting in the bottom three.

Fans thought that the damage was done, and some resigned themselves to League One football for next season.

However, Monk has come in and has steadied the sinking ship. Birmingham look like a new side under him, and here are three reasons why they will stay up.

Momentum is growing

You know the drill. A new manager comes in, and surprise results start to change. This has happened at Birmingham City.

Before Monk came in, they had won once in their last six. Despite losing his first two games in charge, Birmingham have now won their last two games against Ipswich and Bolton respectively.

This has seen Birmingham crawl their way out of the bottom three. With momentum and hope growing between fans and players alike, this should help instil some belief into the squad.

We've now seen what the squad can do, and the momentum should see them over the line.

Been there done that

Birmingham survived last season by the skin of their teeth. Their experience in being in a relegation dogfight gives them an advantage over other clubs around them in the table.

Teams around them such as Reading, who were in a promotion push last season, and Barnsley, who comfortably stayed up last year, will be inexperienced when it comes to a relegation fight.

Birmingham players who stayed from last season will be able to recall how they stayed up and will try and repeat the feat this season.

The form of the teams in the bottom three

Bottom of the league Burton have only managed one point from six games, while Sunderland who are 23rd have won once in twelve.

All of the teams in the bottom three haven't really managed to get a run going, and with Birmingham hitting form at the right time, the Blues should be able to stay up.
