Charlton will want to bounce back from their defeat against Preston North End last time out, as they prepare to take on their South East London rivals Millwall at The Den this Saturday.

The Addicks lost by one goal to nil to the Lilywhites, courtesy of a Paul Gallagher goal. One decision by Lee Bowyer that got people talking over the weekend was his team selection.

Left-back Ben Purrington was deployed as a left-wing-back in a 3-5-2 - something he changed at half-time.

The 23-year-old did not set the world alight with his performance, as he had two attempts on goal, a 60% pass completion rate, and made no successful dribbles. Despite that, he won three aerial duels, showing his defensive capabilities.

Despite regaining his place in the team from the injured Jake Forster-Caskey, who Bowyer recently converted into a left-wing back, Purrington could be looking over his shoulder once again, as another left-sided defender makes his injury return.

Lewis Page has been out for Charlton since pre-season, and has had various injury problems for the Addicks since joining from West Ham in January 2017

However, the 23-year-old has been stepping up his return to full fitness, as he managed to get a run out for the under-23's in their fixture against Millwall at Calmont Road.

Page got 45 minutes under his belt, in what will be a welcome boost for himself and Addicks boss Lee Bowyer.

Despite Page still being a short while away from gaining full fitness, Purrington will have to be wary, despite nailing down the starting place at the moment.

So far this season, Purrington has made twelve starts for Charlton, scoring one goal.

Page on the other hand only made 11 appearances for Charlton in the whole last season, so it will be a challenge for the ex-West Ham defender to stay fit.

Despite all of that, if Page stays injury free, it will be good competition for both of them, and will mean Bowyer won't be forced to put his players in unfamiliar positions.
