Charlton's players will be disappointed after a late winner for Bristol City saw the Addicks fall to a 2-1 defeat at Ashton Gate on Wednesday night.

Josh Brownhill slotted home in the 8th minute of stoppage time to send Lee Bowyer's side back to SE7 with nothing to show for their efforts.

The result drops the Addicks down the table to 10th, as they prepare to face table-toppers West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

One of the key talking points from the game was the spate of injuries suffered for Charlton - with Jake Forster-Caskey and Sam Field both substituted in the first half with knocks.

It leaves Lee Bowyer with a shortage of players, as it now means four first-team players are on the sidelines.

Left-back Ben Purrington was not available for the trip to Ashton Gate with an injury, but could return to the starting XI for the West Brom clash.

Over the past two games, Lee Bowyer has opted for Forster-Caskey in the wing-back role, although the 25-year-old is suited to playing in midfield.

The hamstring injury he suffered in yesterday's game will keep him out for a couple of weeks, leaving Purrington to claim back the position.

The 23-year-old has made ten Championship appearances so far for Charlton, contributing with one assist.

He will have to step up his game though, as a poor performance against Swansea saw him substituted in the 77th minute. The 2-1 defeat at the Valley was his last game in a Charlton shirt.

One thing the defender will have to do if he regains his place in Lee Bowyer's starting XI is adapt his game to play at left-wing back.

The Charlton manager opted for a 5-4-1 system against Derby, with Forster-Caskey and Chris Solly deployed as the wing-backs.

Although Purrington's game is more suited to making defensive contributions, he will be thinking that he has to impress the manager regardless of where he is asked to play.
