If you’re a Reading fan then the memories of that Wembley heartbreak in the Championship final are probably still strong in the memory.

After regulation time in their tie against Huddersfield Town ended at 0-0, the Royals lost on penalties as David Wager’s side earned the best prize in football- promotion to the Premier League.

And for Jaap Stam and the thousands of Reading fans that made the trip, a sense of what could have been is still lingering over the squad with the new season edging ever closer.

But moving forward, former Manchester United legend Stam must now try to forget about that heartbreak and move things in the right direction once again, starting with his summer business.

And there’s one player we’d love to see make the move to Berkshire over the coming weeks and that’s Celtic playmaker Gary Mackay-Steven.

The former Dundee attacker has struggled to really settle in at Paradise after his move a couple of years ago and his time at the club is surely coming to an end.

But as we’ve seen in glimpses at Parkhead, he’s a player with fantastic ability on the ball and when it comes to flair, he’s probably one of the best in the entire division.

What he needs now though is regular game-time at a competitive level.

Brendan Rodgers certainly isn’t messing around with his summer transfer business at Celtic and for every player he brings in, it makes it even tougher for players like Mackay-Steven to get into the squad.

For Reading, bringing in a player like the Scotsman would add that little bit of trickery, pace and flair that they perhaps missed during the big occasions last season.
