Cardiff have had a good September after starting their season fairly inconsistently. Losses to Wigan and Reading in August got Bluebirds supporters worried that they'd have an unwelcome return to the Championship.

However, since Neil Warnock's side were thrashed at the Madejski Stadium, they have remained unbeaten and are now looking good value for a play-off push in the future.

One of the stars of the show is often central-midfielder, Joe Ralls, who shows his desire and determination which epitomises what a Warnock side is about.

Ralls has been an ever-present for Cardiff over the past couple of seasons and often shows his excellent ability to be able to push the team forward when they're going through a tricky run.

Although, on Wednesday night, the midfielder was unable to play for the Bluebirds due to injury, and as much as supporters saw that as a big miss, Cardiff went onto win the fixture 3-0.

It was a well-earned result against a very good QPR side, and one that would have pleased Warnock and keeps them at very close quarters with the top six.

Ralls will be worried about how effective the attack was on Wednesday. Lee Tomlin was the man who Warnock chose to replace the midfielder, and he had an excellent performance in what was a new formation for Cardiff. They decided to play a 4-2-3-1 formation instead of their usual 4-3-3 and it worked to good effect against a flaky QPR backline.

Despite not having much possession, the Bluebirds were able to break down QPR on several occasions and looked like they had another dimension to their attacking play.

Admittedly, the R's did hit the post twice, but failed to produce a threat in the midfield with Marlon Pack and Leandro Bacuna performing excellently as the midfield two in front of the backline, which gives Ralls another reason to worry.

As he wasn't playing, it now gives Warnock something to think about heading into Saturday's clash with one of the best teams in the league, West Brom.

It'll be interesting if the boss decides to play that many attacking players or puts Ralls back into the lineup when the Bluebirds travel to the Hawthorns.

When the squad is fully fit, he should make it into the starting XI after being the standout performer for a few years now.
