West Brom's move for Sunderland right back Bryan Oviedo fell through at last minute last night, as reported by journalist James Hunter.

The Costa Rican international travelled to the West Midlands to thrash out a deal with Darren Moore's side, but it hasn't happened and Sunderland boss Jack Ross is now considering whether to include him in tomorrow's match day squad to face AFC Wimbledon.

The 28-year-old had been tipped to make a move 'overseas' as well as to SPFL leaders Celtic, but in the end it was a trip to the Hawthorns that brought his deadline day to an end.

He's one of a handful of players still at the Stadium of Light following their successive relegations and he'll now be a part of their promotion chasing squad for the next few months.

The former Everton man has lost his first team place to Reece James in recent weeks, starting just nine League One matches of the 27 Sunderland have played.

They're currently fifth, nine points off the top spot but with games in hand on the sides above.

The Verdict

Bryan Oviedo has done things the right way, as you'd expect a player to. He's not pushed for a move, he's not had a tantrum or gone on strike, he's got on with his job and fought for the team.

It's a shame for all parties the deal fell through, of course it is. Sunderland would have liked him off the wage bill, West Brom would have liked a decent right back and Oviedo no doubt just wants to play football.

He's a casualty of the deadline day madness.
