Charlton midfielder Beram Kayal has endured a disappointing time since joining the club on loan from Brighton over the summer, with the Israel international having been plagued by injuries in recent months.

There was plenty of anticipation when the Premier League midfielder joined Lee Bowyer's side on transfer deadline day in August, but has only managed to make six appearances for the South London side as a result of his injury difficulties.

The 31-year-old has certainly shown some glimpses of his quality during his outings for the Addicks, but he has simply not been able to remain fit for long enough to establish himself as an important figure within the Charlton side.

Kayal has now not made an appearance for the Londoners since substitute outing against Millwall back in mid-November, with this meaning he has formed part of the recent injury crisis which has negatively affected Charlton's results of late.

Bowyer's men have only managed to collect one victory in their last 15 matches as a result of their injury woes, and it appears as though the situation is not improving for Kayal as he continues his recovery from a groin problem.

The midfielder is currently on the mend after undergoing successful surgery on his injury, but this means it could still be some time before he is able to contribute for the Addicks in the second half of the campaign.

Therefore, it would seem sensible for Charlton to make the difficult call to cut short Kayal's loan spell at the club in order to make space in the squad for another potential addition, seeing as there is a limit on the number of loan players allowed.

There is a chance that Kayal would be able to recover from his injury to contribute towards the end of the Addicks' campaign, but Bowyer will now be looking for immediate improvement to his squad given their recent struggles in the league.

It is true that Jonny Williams has recently returned from his injury lay-off, while Sam Field and Josh Cullen should also be returning soon, but Bowyer cannot afford to take risks in what is a crucial transfer window for his side.

There will be the temptation to keep hold of Kayal in the hope that he could play a part later on in the campaign, but the best move would be for Charlton to accept that the move has not worked out and cut ties with the midfielder.
