Mid-season managerial change isn’t always the best thing for a club but for Birmingham City, it can be safely argued that it preserved their Championship status last time out.

Harry Redknapp came in with just three games to go to lead the Blues to safety, winning key games against Huddersfield Town and Bristol City on the final day of the campaign.

Those performances were a far cry from what we saw during Gianfranco Zola’s wretched reign in-charge at St Andrews and it’s a testament to the quality many knew did already exist at the club.

And moving forward, it’s set to be a busy summer for Redknapp and his coaches, as they look to improve the ranks further to see the side up the table from the off come August.

But one man that might not make it that far is striker Clayton Donaldson, who struggled with injury for large parts of this campaign.

Now one of the more ageing members of this current Blues crop, the former Brentford man had carried the team over the past couple of seasons and you’ll be hard-pressed to find many that disagree.

But this is a new chapter in Birmingham’s history and with the likes of Che Adams and Lukas Jutkiewicz currently leading the line in the first-team and more arrivals expected over the summer, it could get tough for The Don to get games under his belt.

At this level, he could certainly do a job for another club, that’s for sure. But with Harry Redknapp at the helm, there’s an overwhelming feeling amongst Birmingham fans that the only way is up from here.

Going back to a player that has suffered badly with injury and form this season certainly isn’t doing that.

Cutting ties and letting him go might not be a bad thing in the slightest but Blues must be wary of selling to rivals in this division.

You get the feeling that Clayton is a man that would come back and do some damage against you down at St Andrews.
