Few supporters will be more excited about the new Championship season getting underway than those hardy bunch down at Birmingham City.

The Bluenoses that had to watch the football on display at St Andrews last season weren’t treated to very much in the slightest, and the terrible run of form the club underwent under Gianfranco Zola was dismal to say the very least.

The Italian never really got ahold of things in the Midlands during his tenure at the club and when club bosses eventually made the right decision to axe him before they were relegated to League One, in came Harry Redknapp to save the day.

The experienced manager will be at the helm for the entirety of the 2017/2018 campaign having guided the club to safety right at the death last season and as the players reported back for pre-season testing, it was interesting to see one man in particular.

Diego Fabbrini is a man some Blues fans might have forgotten about following his loan switch away in January, where he spent the remainder of the season at Serie B outit Spezia Calcio.

The playmaker enjoyed a fruitful loan spell at the club under former manager Gary Rowett during a previous stint, but he struggled for game-time having signed a permanent deal at the club last summer.

But his return to St Andrews comes at an interesting time, right as Harry Redknapp can really take a look at the squad of players he has on his hands.

As we said, he’s a player that showed has showed some serious skill and creativity in the past but was criticised for not providing enough end product.

If he’s to work his way into the manager's plans for the upcoming campaign, he needs to start strongly in pre-season.

He deserves another chance to shine in the Midlands but his future very much depends on who Harry brings in over the coming months.

Will he see the quality that Gary Rowett saw or will he ship him on sooner rather than later?

We think he deserves a chance.
