Birmingham City attacker Kerim Mrabti will surely need to take his opportunity to stake a claim for more regular game time over the next few weeks, following the latest comments from Pep Clotet over his involvement.

Mrabti has made eight appearances for the Blues in the Championship so far this season under Clotet, but the 25-year-old has only managed to register one assist during the opening months of the campaign, having managed to produce just one goal and one assist last term in 12 league appearances.

The attacker has found himself out of Birmingham's squad for their last five Championship matches, with the likes of Dan Crowley, Jeremie Bela, Jacques Maghoma and Jefferson Montero all being selcted ahead of Mrabti, as Clotet looks to get more productivity from his attacking payers with the Blues only registering 22 league goals so far this term.

The 25-year-old had started four successive Championship matches for the Blues prior to their last five games, with Clotet pairing Mrabti up front with Lukas Jutkiewicz in wins against Blackburn Rovers and Luton Town at St Andrews, before moving him into a wider position against Cardiff City and Fulham.

However, having failed to really make an impression on the game, Mrabti was brought off midway through the second period against Fulham, as the Blues looked to find a route back into the match after going 1-0 behind - and the attacker has not featured in any of the following five matches in the Championship.

Mrabti, though, could find himself back in contention for a place in Clotet's squad following Crowley being forced off with an injury during the Blues' 3-2 win at Reading last weekend, while Bela was also taken off as a precaution during Birmingham's 2-0 defeat at home to Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday.

Do you know where these 15 ex-Birmingham City players are playing now?

Following that defeat against QPR, Clotet speaking to the Birmingham Mail suggested that Mrabti has been missing out on his squad due to the level of competition in his squad, but that he is ready to make an impact when called upon, saying: "Kerim is working very well, we used him in a lot of games this season and we evaluated his performance as well.

"At the same time we have a lot of options up front but he is one of them you end up now, today, I am facing a dilemma, what players do we get so we have the energy levels right.

"At the end of the day he is very fresh at the minute and I do think if he does get an opportunity he will try to use it."

Those comments certainly appear to a challenge from Clotet to Mrabti that he needs to come in and take his chance if he is selected during the next few weeks, with the Blues in need of finding a spark to help them create and take more chances in the final third.

Given the January window is approaching this could well be Mrabti's last real chance to force his way into the side on a regular basis, with the Blues likely to be in the market for more attacking options during the winter window - and having not had much game time over the last few weeks the 25-year-old will fresh enough to come in and make a positive impression.
