In what is proving to be a tough season for Reading, manager Jose Gomes will have been lifted by the news that midfielder Andy Rinomhota has signed a new contract to stay at the club until the summer of 2022, as confirmed on the club website.

The 21-year-old has made 22 appearances this season and has been a fixture in the Royals midfield since November, having come up through Reading's youth ranks and making his first-team debut in the EFL Cup in August 2017.

"He has drive and determination, which are fantastic assets for any footballer," manager Jose Gomes said.

"He is also a big inspiration for other aspiring players at our club, who can feel that there is a path from our academy to our first team," Gomes added to the club website.

So is Rinomhota's new Reading deal great news for the club?

We discuss.....

Jacob Potter

"The best news all season.

"Rinomhota has been excellent all season for the Royals and has been the only positive in a shocking season so far.

"He is the future of the club, and the Royals have made a smart move in securing his long-term future at the Madejski Stadium."

Alfie Burns

“Whilst it is impossible to predict what the future holds, this will give Reading a boost ahead of the run-in.

“Rinomhota is a talented midfielder who has made such a difference in a struggling Reading side.

“It’s just the type of boost you need when you’re fighting relegation.”

Gary Hutchinson

“Good news, whether it’s great or not is open for debate.

“There’s a tendency to go overboard these days with news of new deals and the like.

“This could be good, if they stay up and he gets regular games.

“But great? Not as great as three points this weekend.”

Jay Taylor

“This is big news,

“When he doesn’t play, Reading struggle without him.

“The news of him staying at the club for the long-term is unbeatable news and could give the club a spring in their step with the relegation battle intensifying.”
