Blackburn Rovers are prepared to move for Cardiff City’s Mark Harris in the summer, according to Alan Nixon via Patreon.

Rovers tried to sign the 24-year-old last month but were unwilling to pay the £700,000 price tag they were given by Cardiff.

A big factor in this will have been due to the fact Harris will become a free agent in the summer, if he fails to agree new terms at Cardiff.

The report from Nixon also states that Blackburn are keen on a move for Harris as the club’s chief scout knows Harris well having worked with him at international level.

As Blackburn potentially weigh up a move for Harris in the summer, we asked some of our writers at FLW their thoughts on Harris joining Blackburn.

Mark Harris is a different kind of attacking option to what Jon Dahl Tomasson currently has at Blackburn Rovers and he is someone that would bolster the competition levels at Ewood Park.

Full of energy, a direct runner and intelligent and still 24 years of age, I do think that he would represent a strong addition and could perhaps do with a change of scenery.

He also meets the demands out of possession as he is an intelligent and intense presser of the ball, something that could help make him a big hit in Lancashire.

Perhaps not the most deadly forward in the division but he brings a lot of abilities to the final third of the pitch.

Harris would have to work his way into the side and may be more of a rotational option if he was to arrive in the summer, but he still comes with a high ceiling.

With Ben Brereton Diaz set to depart, Blackburn Rovers will likely be on the lookout for more forward firepower in the summer and Mark Harris represents an interesting option.

A readymade replacement for Brereton Diaz is not but Harris could still prove a useful addition to Jon Dahl Tomasson's squad.

The 24-year-old has never been a consistent goalscorer but he's versatile enough to play out wide on the left as well as through the middle while he's good at linking up with and creating chances for teammates in the final third.

On top of that, you know that you're going to get plenty of industry out of possession from the Welshman.

You do feel as though the best is yet to come for Harris and with Cardiff facing a potential relegation, he might fancy a move to Ewood Park.

That would likely mean it was a cheap deal, which is an obvious positive.

Obviously, Blackburn are going to be losing their main goal scoring outlet in Ben Brereton-Diaz this summer, as the Chilean heads to Villareal.

So it is no surprise that Rovers are already looking at the market ahead of the summer window and looking at forward options. However, it is probably a surprise that the club is looking at Cardiff striker Mark Harris.

The 24-year-old is definitely not a player that is ready to step up and fill the void left by Brereton-Diaz, but this season he has shown that he is capable at this level and has the versatility that Jon Dahl Tomasson seems to like in his squad.

He is not the finished article, and there would be doubts if he could score goals on the same level as Brereton-Diaz, but he would bring an energetic, youthful side to Blackburn, and in years to come he may improve his game further.
