They're two of the giants of the Championship, both of which are having fine seasons, but who makes up a combined eleven of Newcastle United and Leeds United?

Newcastle plummeted down to the Championship with a minimum expectation, to bounce back straight to the Premier League, ideally as Champions of the division.

They've started in fine fashion, with analysts predicting them to level Reading's record 106 points in the division, which would be quite a feat considering many believe the total is unbeatable.

Leeds are as unpredictable as they come.

Their extensive fan base continue to dream about promotion back to the top flight, but with the appointment of Garry Monk as manager, a squad overturn and a large sum of money spent, play-off hopes are fairly high.

But who makes a combined eleven between the two clubs? FLW's Charlie Firth takes a look at a combined Leeds/Newcastle XI.

Goalkeeper: Rob Green

robert greenrobert greensssss

The former England international, renowned for his horrendous hiccup against the USA in the 2010 World Cup, is proving he can still do it at 36 at his new home at Elland Road.

He was released by QPR last year after the club decided they didn't want to trigger a clause in his contract that would extended his deal by a year after a certain number of games played.

He beats the likes of Matz Sels and Karl Darlow between the sticks after Sels' unsure start to life at the club, whilst Darlow is known for making a few mistakes.

Right back: DeAndre Yedlin

The American international was actually very impressive in the Premier League at the club's arch rivals Sunderland last year, where he spent a year on loan.

The Black Cats were desperate to bring the American international back to the club on a permanent basis, but were beaten to the chase by Newcastle, who snatched the Spurs full back from under their noses.

He beats Gaetano Berardi and Luke Ayling as he shows both excellent attack and defensive instincts, as well as a ludicrous amount of pace.

Centre back: Pontus Jansson

jansson00

This big Swede has been a brilliant signing for Leeds since joining on loan from Torino, having got on extremely well with the fans and putting in some fantastic defensive performances.

The club are very keen on bringing him in permanently in January but are joined by the likes of Watford, who have also been impressed by his Championship form.

His form would place him in the vast, vast majority of Championship sides, including Newcastle.

Centre back: Ciaran Clark

Newcastle poached the Republic of Ireland international from Aston Villa over the summer as the two tumbled down to the Championship together.

He's arguably been the clubs best player this year (although there are plenty of names to pick from) and has been a mainstay at the back along with captain Jamaal Lascelles.

He beats the likes of Kyle Bartley to the position, although he has also been in terrific form.

Left back: Charlie Taylor

A man surrounded in controversy at the moment who also happens to be an absolutely fantastic left back, who's been eyed up by the likes of Liverpool and West Brom over the year.

He's refusing to sign a new deal at Elland Road in order to force through a move to the Premier League, but Massimo Cellino is adamant that he'll stay until his contract expires.

Paul Dummett is a bit of a weak link in the Toon side, and definitely wouldn't get in over Charlie Taylor.

Right wing: Matt Ritchie

matt-ritchiematt-ritchiedddd

He's too good for the Championship, frankly, and Matt Ritchie has still quietly shone for Newcastle this season, where he usually starts on the right wing.

He's managed two goals and five assists so far this season after joining in a stunning move from Bournemouth over the summer, despite being linked to Manchester United.

Central midfield: Jonjo Shelvey

shelvey66

There have been suggestions of an England call up for Jonjo Shelvey, who moved to Newcastle from Swansea over the summer but failed to help them out of relegation zone.

With three goals and five assists, Shelvey has been one of the Championship's best players this season and has been absolutely inspirational in the centre of the park for the Toon this year.

He definitely gets picked over Alex Mowatt, Eunan O'Kane and Liam Bridcutt in midfield.

Central midfielder: Isaac Hayden

hayden7762

Isaac Hayden was impressive on loan at Hull City last season and came back to the Championship over the summer, on a permanent basis with Newcastle.

He left Arsenal and has become one of Newcastle's strongest players, enforcing play from midfield, with ability to play in numerous positions in the pitch.

He makes the grade over any of the Leeds midfielders as it's an area where Newcastle are particularly talented, and Leeds' middle-men just don't come close.

Left wing: Yoan Gouffran

yoan-gouffrancccc

Newcastle's surprise package of the season, Gouffran has been in absolutely wonderful form since relegation to the Championship.

Newcastle are yet to lose a game he's started this season.

He did look set to leave over the summer, for all the wrong reasons, but has now attracted interest for his strong performances out wide from Lille, with six months on his contract.

He certainly beats any of the Leeds wide-men after his excellent form this year.

Striker: Chris Wood

chris-wood-000e

He may not be the most popular man in the Leeds squad, but Chris Wood has come through on his summer promise to get 20 goals this season (so far).

With eight goals in 15 appearances thus far there are few forwards in the division with a better scoring record this season, which is pretty admirable given his fairly average haul last year.

Wood is coming into his own at Leeds and can be the clubs talisman and goal-getter to push them into the play off places.

Striker: Dwight Gayle

dwight-gayled

Headlines were made over the summer when Dwight Gayle FINALLY left Crystal Palace for the Championship, with only Newcastle able to bring him in, despite the efforts of Bristol City and others.

Eleven goals in 12 appearances.

There are very few strikers in the world right now with a strike record of that calibre, proving that he's probably above Championship level.

Many would describe Gayle as the best striker in the Championship right now, and Rafa Benitez is lucky to have him.
