Yorkshire is the biggest county in England, with some top quality players plying their trades across 11 different clubs in the Football League.

There are six clubs in the Championship, while League One boasts four, with York City making up the 11 in League Two.

It would be easy to make a case for a team full of Middlesbrough, Hull, or Sheffield Wednesday players in this article, but that would be taking away from the point of trying to make a best combined 11.

With Boro looking likely to be promoted, and the Owls and Hull likely to make the play-offs, you could even have a combined team of these 3 clubs.

However, looking at it with all the clubs involved, each club probably has at least one player who deserves a mention.

With that in mind, here is the best combined XI made up from players playing in the Yorkshire area, according to FLW writer Lee Connor......

GK - Allan McGregor

Allan McGregor Allan McGregor

McGregor just makes this team ahead of Kieran Westwood given how good the Hull defence has been, and that he performed admirably in the Premier League last term too.

He is a fine goalkeeper, and gives his defence confidence that if they are breached, then they have a worthy stopper behind them to keep the ball out of the net.

He has been in fine form a Hull side who have only conceded 29 goals all season, second only to Middlesbrough.

Def - Tony McMahon

tony McMahontony McMahon

There are probably better defenders and players across the region, but McMahon has been excellent in a Bradford team that have defied the odds and climbed to third in League One as of the weekend just gone.

McMahon was the first player in the league to reach double figures in assists, and is a real threat from dead ball situations.

He has also represented Boro and Sheffield United, and so has strong links to the county. McMahon makes the 11 based on merit and his performances this season for the Bantams.

Def - Tom Lees

leessss

The Sheffield Wednesday centre half has been a rock for the Owls, proving to be one of the best defenders in the League on his day.

Lees has been excellent since he made the move from Leeds two years ago, excelling in his role at centre back alongside the equally impressive Glen Loovens.

Leeds fans were happy to see Lees leave, but he has proved them wrong and become one of the best defenders in the division, while endearing himself to Owls fans with his whole hearted displays.

Def - Daniel Ayala

Daniel AyalaDaniel Ayala

Impossible not to select someone from the best defence in the league in this team, and Ayala is the main man in the Boro back four.

He has been excellent ever since joining the club, and is the one of the main reasons the team has managed to keep so many clean sheets this season.

Next to someone like Tom Lees, he would be excellent, and would be my choice for captain in this 11 too, leading by example from the back for his team mates.

Def - Charlie Taylor

The young Leeds United left back could slot in at left back in this 11, and despite Middlsbrough having George Friend and Hull having Andrew Robertson, Taylor gets the nod to represent Leeds in this team.

Taylor has been excellent since being brought back into the team, and at 22, has plenty of time to be nurtured and develop into a real star under Steve Evans.

Indeed Taylor could do a lot worse than to take note of Friend and Robertson, and model his game on two of the finest full backs outside of the Premier League.

Mid - Fernando Forestieri

Fernando Forestierimm

Yes it can be argued he is a striker in the main, but he can also play left midfield or in the number 10 position, so the little Italian makes my 11.

He has got 15 goals this term, and is the top scorer for the Owls.

His season has been tarnished by 2 silly red cards of late, but there is no doubting his ability and impact on the team, with manager Carlos Carvalhal often plumping to select Forestieri in all the big games.

He is an excellent player, and could play anywhere across the attack in this 11.

Mid - Grant Leadbitter

leadbitterrr

I had to select one of Leadbitter or Adam Clayton, who have both been phenomenal in central midfield for Middlesbrough, but I opted with the captain.

His displays have been excellent, and he has taken pressure penalties and scored important winners for Boro when they have needed him.

He drives the team on when all can sometimes look lost, and for me, is a shoe in for this team. Leadbitter will be determined to impress in the Premier League next term should Boro eventually secure promotion.

Mid - Sam Clucas

Sam ClucasSam Clucas

The attacking midfielder has been excellent for Hull this term, with manager Steve Bruce admitting he is one of the first names on his team sheet.

Clucas joined from Chesterfield and has easily made the step up to Championship level, with many putting his name in the hat for a summer move to the Premier League.

Clucas plays mainly out wide, but has the ability to drift into more central areas and contribute immensely with goals and assists. He is a real star in the making.

Fwd - Sam Winnall

Sam WinnallSam Winnall

Winnall has to make this team and represent the Johnstones Paint Trophy winners.

He has 19 goals to his name this term, with only Will Grigg and Nicky Ajose scoring more in the League, and is a real star when it comes to finishing off chances.

He missed much of the early part of the season, which coincided with Barnsley being bottom of the league. However since his return he has done nothing but score goals to fire the Tykes to within 3 points of a play off place going into the weekend games.

Fwd - Nakhi Wells

wellsssss

15 goals in a team which has mainly struggled this season says it all, and although it means leaving Abel Hernandez of Hull out, I have gone for Wells to represent Huddersfield in this team.

Wells is an out and out born goalscorer, and it key to the Terriers squad and any chance of success they may have.

A big money signing from Bradford, he has in the main impressed, and this season shown why they paid what they did for him.

Fwd - Billy Sharp

sharp00

The final name in the 11, and the only Sheffield United player to make the list, is Billy Sharp.

His 18 goals have been about the only bright spark in a miserable season for the Blades, which has seen them fall short of any sort of push for promotion.

The Sheffield born striker though has been excellent, and deserves his spot in this 11 alongside Wells and Winnall. It would be a lethal front three, with Sharp bound to score goals in such good company.
