London is arguably the capital of the footballing world, with clubs like Arsenal & Chelsea, who have both reached the Champions League final, and the sheer number of other clubs dotted around the biggest city in Europe.

Hosting the Champions League final twice in the last few years as well as being the host of the 2020 European Championships semi-finals and final, London has quality football everywhere you look.

As well as the top flight clubs, there are nine Football League clubs in the capital, which are AFC Wimbledon, Barnet, Brentford, Charlton, Dagenham & Redbridge, Fulham, Leyton Orient, Millwall and Queens Park Rangers.

Here at Football League World, we have decided to put together the current best XI from these nine teams combined.

FLW's Ryan Evans will be putting the players in a 4-4-2 formation, as the Football League team of the season does......

GK: Alex Smithies (QPR)

smithies

Smithies has been Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's number one 'keeper since January, when he stopped playing Rob Green in order to save him from a clause in his contract that entitles him to a new contract if he makes a certain number of appearances in a season.

He has played 17 times for QPR in the league, conceding 18 goals, which isn't a bad record for a team that concedes on average 1.2 goals per game.

The 26-year old has an amazing record in England, having played 247 times for Huddersfield before his move to Loftus Road this summer. He also helped them earn promotion to the Championship back in 2012, scoring the winning penalty in the shoot-out against Sheffield United.

RB: Maxime Colin (Brentford)

Maxime ColinMaxime Colin

The Frenchman signed for the Bees in August from Belgian side Anderlecht, and whilst he has missed stretches of the season with injury, has looked impressive since the turn of the year, and has been a starring member of the side that have won their last three games, scoring nine goals in the process.

In their most recent game, a 3-1 victory over Ipswich, he even popped up with an assist.

The right-back is an excellent dribbler of the ball, and also extremely solid in defence. It is fair to say that the 24-year could be a potential Premier League player one day.

CB: Harlee Dean (Brentford)

Harlee DeanHarlee Dean

Another Brentford member of the back four, Dean has been almost ever-present in Dean Smith's side, starting in 36 of their 40 games thus far in the season.

The 24-year old, who has made in almost 150 appearances in west London, uses his height well, and has been pretty solid in the air this season.

CB: Nedum Onuoha (QPR)

The 29-year old has arguably been Rangers' player of the season, winning man of the match four times whilst starting in every single league match.

With a wealth of Premier League experience under his belt, Onuoha has played at centre-back and right-back this season.

If QPR are to clamber up the table next season to the promotion spots, you would have thought that Onuoha would be a major part of that.

LB: Luke Garbutt (Fulham)

garbutt66

The left-back is currently at Craven Cottage on loan from Premier League side Everton, and has made 24 appearances at both his natural position, as well as on the left hand side of midfield.

Garbutt's free-kick ability continues the trend that sees pretty much every full-back at Goodison Park able to take a set-piece, and has definitely made the Fulham back four more solid since his introduction into the side.

The 22-year old has made appearances in every under-age England squads from 16s to 21s, and many believe he will go on to rival Luke Shaw for the senior England number three jersey.

RM: Lasse Vibe (Brentford)

vibeeeyy

Okay, so maybe right-midfield isn't his best position, but after the last three games, Vibe just had to get into my best London XI.

The Dane has 12 goals, an assist and four man of the match performances this season at Griffin Park, with five of those goals and an assist coming in his last three matches, where he has lead this Brentford side to three wins out of three, scoring nine goals in the process.

At 29-years old, Vibe is in the prime of his career, and could help the Bees to push for a play-off spot again next season.

CM: Tom Cairney (Fulham)

cairney762

After Slavisa Jokanovic decided that the hole behind the striker is Cairney's best position, Cairney immediately re-payed him with some excellent performances.

Included in this is four goals and an assist in four games, featuring man of the match performances against London rivals QPR and Charlton.

After moving to Craven Cottage from Blackburn in the summer, the 24-year old has slotted straight into the Fulham team with 35 appearances throughout the season.

It is a shame that his form has died of slightly towards the tail end of this season, but it looks likely that Jokanovic will be able to build a team around a player like Cairney, and the decent core this Fulham side possesses.

CM: Alan Judge (Brentford)

Alan JudgeAlan Judge

What a season the 27-year old has had. With 14 goals and 11 assists in his 38 appearances, Judge looked certain to go to the European Championships with his native Republic of Ireland, before a horror injury in the match against Ipswich recently.

Most people in English football were gutted to see Judge deprived of his first opportunity to compete in an international tournament, a stage that he most certainly deserves to be on.

But let's hope he will come back stronger and fitter than ever, because he has (almost) single-handedly made this season respectable for the Bees, and they could easily be looking over their shoulders if it wasn't for Judge's form.

LM: John Swift (Brentford)

swiftttttt

On loan at Griffin Park from fellow west London club Chelsea, Swift's form has been sporadic at times. Undoubtedly the 20-year old has talent, with six goals, four assists and three man of the match performances so far during his spell at the club.

Swift could definitely be a great prospect in the future, and has been a key contributor for his team this season - and for that reason he has earnt himself a place in my side.

ST: Ross McCormack (Fulham)

mccormack99999

Of course McCormack is in this side. With 23 goals and eight assists in all competitions this season, the Scottish striker has also played all but one of Fulham's matches this season as he has fired his team to having the second highest scoring attack in the league.

Lately, the former Leeds man has five goals in his last seven, and won man of the match twice in a week as he looks to be ending the season in his best form.

Whilst the 29-year old has always been considered a decent player, this is the first time he has taken in to the next level. Don't be surprised to see McCormack gracing the Premier League stage in the not-to-distant future.

ST: Moussa Dembele (Fulham)

dembelelelee

The 19-year old has 14 goals and six assists this season, and has attracted interest from the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. He has also been tipped for a call up to France's Euro 2016 squad.

Dembele has realised his potential this season, and Jokanovic will be hoping that he decides to stay in west London one more season to help launch this Fulham side back up the table, where it belongs.
