Sunderland terminated the contract of manager Jack Ross yesterday and fans of the North East club have been providing suggestions of who they want as his replacement.

Ross took over last May and was close to taking the club back to the Championship in his first season in charge but lost to Charlton Athletic in the play-off final.

The Black Cats have been underwhelming under the Scotsman this season and are sixth in the table as things stand–eight points behind league leaders Ipswich Town already.

Assistant manager James Fowler has taken temporary charge of the first team and led them to a 3-2 victory against Grimsby Town in the EFL Trophy last night.

Sunderland stated on the club website that their search for a new boss commences today and a number of names have already been linked.

According to Keith Downie from Sky Sports, former Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips wants the job, ex-Barnsley boss Daniel Stendel is being considered, while former Black Cats man Stephen Elliot has suggested Mick McCarthy would be the best choice.

With Barnsley and Millwall also searching for a new manager, the Black Cats may face some stern competition to get the person they want.

Many Sunderland fans have taken to Twitter to provide their suggestions for who the club should bring in to replace Ross.
