The best Bolton Wanderers XI since the Millennium – Right-backs

Published

on

Bolton Wanderers’ previous highs in the Premier League will feel like a distant memory for the majority of the club’s supporters.

The Trotters are now playing their football in League One, and look as though they’re edging closer to relegation into the fourth tier of English football.

They have had their fair share of financial troubles in recent years, which will be one of the main reasons as to why they find themselves in the position they’re in this season.

We look at FOUR of the best Bolton Wanderers right-backs since the Millennium.

Find out who they are, below….

Nicky Hunt

Hunt made 154 appearances in total for Bolton across a nine-year spell with the club.

The right-back made 29 league appearances as the Trotters finished sixth in the Premier League back in the 2004/05 campaign.

Hunt is still playing professional football at the age of 36, and has played his part in Crewe Alexandra’s impressive season so far in League Two.

Grétar Steinsson

Steinsson arrived at the club back in 2007, and went on to put in a number of impressive showings for the Trotters.

The Icelander made 126 appearances in total for Bolton in the top-flight, which included him featuring regularly for them in the Premier League from 2008 to 2012.

He left the club when they were relegated into the Championship in 2012, and has since retired from his playing career.

Lawrie Wilson

Wilson made 26 appearances in total for Bolton during the 2016/17 season, where the Trotters won promotion back into the Championship at the first time of asking.

Bolton only lost five league games when Wilson was involved in the starting XI, which shows how big of an impact he made on the team.

Anthony Barness

After having caught the eye with impressive performances for both Charlton Athletic and Chelsea, Barness signed for Bolton in 2000.

He started regularly for the Trotters in the early years of his time with the club, but found game time harder to come by after the arrival of Nicky Hunt.

Barness made a total of 88 appearances for Bolton Wanderers, and left the club back in 2005.
