Aston Villa have struggled to adapt to life in the Championship and it’s clear that Steve Bruce has a real job on his hands to get them back into the Premier League.

Despite being one of the favourites for automatic promotion next season, Villa showed very little this time out to even suggest that that they’ll be up there with the chasing pack in the 2017/2018 campaign.

The team were overly reliant on striker Jonathan Kodjia last season and far too many high-profile signings haven’t stepped up to the mark, despite the high transfer fees.

And there’s one man that we’ve been particularly unimpressed with since he joined the club last season and that’s Henri Lansbury.

Bringing one of the best reputations in the Championship and arriving on a cheaper deal due to his contract being nearly up at the City Ground, Lansbury was supposed to come into the Villa side and add real balance to a midfield that needed beefing up.

But on reflection, he’s been a little underwhelming.

We’ve not seen the goals that we saw from him during his time at Forest, nor the real leadership which saw him become a real fan favourite on the paddocks.

Amongst supposed “better” players, Lansbury had a real platform to step up and show the Villa supporters what he could do last season.

But he’s been timid, quiet and has struggled to make a real impact on games.

It’s far from the player we’re used to seeing during his time at Forest and he needs to start turning it around sooner rather than later, if he’s to stay a part of Steve Bruce’s first-team plans.
