It's been a seriously tough season for Birmingham City down at St Andrews whilst over on the other side of the city, it hasn't been much better for their bitter rivals Aston Villa either.

Aston Villa bagged the bragging rights in last weekend's second-city derby as they beat the Blues 1-0 at St Andrews thanks to the ever-present Gabby Agbonlahor, who loves a goal against Birmingham.

Whatever division Birmingham are in next season though, they'll have to make preparations to improve the squad, especially if they survive at this level come the end of the campaign,

And there's one man we think would be a cracking addition to this Blues squad and it's quite a controversial addition indeed.

It's actually Aston Villa man Gary Gardner, who would be joining his brother Craig at St Andrews, who joined in January.

He will join permanently this summer but could we see another Gardner brother in the ranks soon enough?

Well, with managerial change seriously impacting things down at St Andrews right now, we think the second £1.7million-rated Gardner brother would make a cracking addition down at the Blues and it could become a seriously formidable partnership too.

Gardner has long-since struggled for first-team game time down at Villa Park for a few seasons now and he needs to be making a move to a club that can offer him regular first-team minutes.

He's strong, defensively good and like his brother Craig, loves a dig from distance.

It might take the Blues faithful a while to come to terms with a move to St Andrews but we've seen the likes of Ridgewell make the transfer and really rub off on the home faithful.

A move worth considering indeed.
