It has been another promising season for Blackburn Rovers under Tony Mowbray.

As things stand, the Lancashire side are eighth in the Championship table, five points adrift of the play-off places with 12 games of the campaign remaining, in what is just their second season since promotion from League One.

One intriguing aspect of Blackburn's progress this season in particular, has been Mowbray's desire to develop his team into one that is capable of playing more attractive, passing football, rather than simply playing a long ball for a target man such as Danny Graham to knock down to the likes of Bradley Dack.

Given his side's current position in the Championship table, it does seem as though that new approach from Mowbray is starting to pay dividends for Rovers, to some extent at least.

But who have been the key figures in helping Blackburn to adopt a more effective passing game this season?

Here, we take a look at the Blackburn players with the best pass success rate this season, according to WhoScored.com (five starts or more).

As has been the case for some time now, Lenihan's presence and defensive ability have made him a key part of Rovers' back four this season.

One aspect of his game that appears to have improved in the current campaign is his distribution from deep, and with the Irishman proving successful with 78.1% passes, suggest that is another significant contribution to this Blackburn side that Lenihan is starting to make.

Blackburn fans may only wonder how much better their season could have been, were it not for an ACL injury that brought a premature end to the on-loan Cardiff left-back's campaign way back in early October.

Cunningham had wasted no time in making himself a popular figure around Ewood Park following his temporary arrival in the summer transfer window with his performances, and with a pass success rate equal to Lenihan's at 78.1% from his eight league appearances, it seems he didn't take long to establish a wavelength with his new teammates either.

Ever since his arrival on a season-long loan from Manchester City back in the summer transfer window, Tosin Adarabioyo's range of passing out from the back has been a key feature of Rovers' campaign.

While it may not always prove successful, Adarbioyo's distribution can be a useful asset for Mowbray's side when it does come off, and a pass success rate of 80.4% certainly suggest that that is the case more often than not.

With 13 starts and a further 12 appearances from the bench this season, it has been a campaign that has seen Joe Rothwell very much in and out of the starting XI.

The attacking midfielder hasn't featured since the end of January due to injury, but with a pass success rate of 82.1%, he has certainly made a useful contribution in terms of helping Rovers to dictate games when in possession, meaning he will be a useful asset when he makes his return to action.

It remains to be seen quite how long Corry Evans will be out of action for due to the serious face injuries he suffered in a 1-1 draw with Preston on his 200th appearance for the club back in January, but his return to the side will certainly provide Mowbray with a welcome extra option to call upon.

Evans had established an effective, dominant partnership with Lewis Travis in Rovers' holding midfield positions prior to that injury, and with a pass success of 82.6%, the Northern Ireland international certainly played his part in providing a supply for those further up the field than him.

Stewart Downing's late-career renaissance at Blackburn just goes on and on.

Even at the age of 35, Downing has appeared in all but three of Rovers' 34 league games this season - starting 29 - and his ability clearly hasn't waned either, with a pass success rate of 82.7% highlighting his continued ability to control play and create chances for his side, something made all the more impressive by the fact he has been played in a variety of positions this season, not all of them familiar to him.

Lewis Travis' stock is continuing to rise around Ewood Park this season, and it is easy to see why when you assess his performances.

Even at 22-years-old, Travis has established himself as a mainstay in the centre of Rovers' midfield this season, playing alongside several different, and more experienced, partners in that all-important holding role.

Those changes around him clearly haven't phased Travis in terms of his linkup play, with his pass success rate of 85% by some way the best of any Blackburn player with more than five starts this season, adding yet another useful asset to his game alongside the tough-tackling that makes him such a challenge for opposition midfielders and attackers.
