Oxford United are perched just outside the top six in League One, just one point and one place short of the play-off places.

Few sides in the division have been able to match Karl Robinson's side in terms of aesthetically pleasing attacking football this season and the U's are amongst the highest-scoring sides in the English third tier.

The U's are not the most physical side defensive but they have been fairly resolute, conceding just 35 goals so far.

They will likely need to stay at the races on both sides of the ball to secure a top-six finish as we head into the business end of the season.

With that in mind, we've outlined Oxford's seven best tacklers as per Whoscored...

Dickie has been a key player for Oxford this season, starting all but one of their League One game so far at the heart of their defence.

The 24-year-old reads the game very well and is excellent in possession but he isn't averse to making a tackle when he needs to and averages 0.9 tackles per game.

Sykes has been a very useful player for Robinson this season, playing in a number of roles in midfield and the forward line.

The versatile 22-year-old has bags of energy with and without the ball, and averages 1 tackle per game.

The left-back has been a mainstay in the U's side, not missing a single League One game all season.

Ruffels has proved his worth in the final third, contributing two goals and three assists, and is solid defensively as well–averaging 1.1 tackles per game.

Long has broken into the side properly since the turn of the year and adds some real energy at right-back.

The 25-year-old has been a useful bit-part player for Oxford, making 15 appearances and averaging 1.1 tackles per game.

The Liverpool loanee was brought to the club to score goals and contribute assists but has seen much of his season hampered by injury.

Prior to that, however, he had shown his work ethic and averages 1.2 tackles per game.

Now we have moved to the business end of this list and the engine room of Oxford's side.

Brannagan has been spectacular in the middle of the park for the U's this season, as much in the way he has done the gritty stuff as for his five goals and six assists.

That is evidenced by the fact that he's averaged 1.9 tackles per game this season.

The anchor of the U's midfield, the way Rodriguez keeps the side ticking over and breaks up opposition play is fantastic.

He may not have been as dangerous in the final third as Brannagan but his work off the ball is vital to what Oxford do, as his average of 2.5 tackles per game this season reveal.
