If the Champions League final taught us anything at all, it is that Liverpool need to address their number one goalkeeper.

Karius fumbled his way into infamy with a horrible display.

Meanwhile, Jack Butland was making the best of a bad job in the sticks at Stoke City and now finds himself marooned in the Championship.

Liverpool are rumoured to be looking, but is the England keeper the right man to improve Liverpool's current offering? Could he adequately hold his own in one of England's best club sides, fighting on domestic and European fronts?

FLW's spotlight shines upon Jack Butland.

Butland played 35 times in the top flight for Stoke last season as they were relegated, often struggling to fend off waves of attacks from opposition forwards. Defensively the Potters looked terrible which contributed to just six clean sheets for the keeper.

That wasn't through a lack of trying though. Butland made 144 saves during the season as his goal was peppered from all angles. He conceded 61 goals but that is more a reflection of the whole side than anything he did wrong. At times he stood as a single line of defence, doing what he could to stem the flow of goals.

His distribution stats are not too impressive, with 47% accuracy. That said, he was often asked to fire the ball long rather than build from the back, meaning much of his distribution was dependent on the receiver and the opposition.

Overall, his clean sheet rate was 17.1%, not the most impressive number but also not shameful given how under pressure the Stoke defence were.

Whatever the stats say, Jack Butland has no place in the second tier and his inclusion in the World Cup squad only continues to highlight what a huge addition he'd be to the Liverpool squad, or indeed whichever Premier League club choose to rescue him this summer.
