With Sky Bet Championship sides getting back to training this week, there will be hope among the clubs just outside the playoffs that they can break into the top six.

Indeed, that will be the hope for Millwall fans who have seen Gary Rowett do a fine job at the club so far and the Lions are serious top six contenders for if and when the campaign gets back up and running.

Whilst we wait to see how the current crop of players do in the potential restart, though, we've been taking a look at the oldest players to have featured for the club with transfermarkt.

Let's start with sixth place...

Carlos Edwards was 37 years, 7 months and 5 days old when he played his last game for Millwall.

The full-back played for the likes of Sunderland during his career but this game was a loss as Barnsley beat the Lions 3-1.

Tim Cahill Tim Cahill is a Millwall legend and his return to the club saw him break into the top six of this list.

His last game for the Lions ended with a 3-0 loss at home to promotion-chasing Fulham in 2018, but he'll forever be remembered as a Millwall great.

Dennis Wise is another Millwall favourite thanks to the Lions' run to the FA Cup final in 2004.

He played for Wimbledon and Chelsea in his prime but was still going into his 38th year, playing in a 0-0 draw for the Lions against Burnley.

The first of two goalkeepers in this list, Paul Jones played in a 1-0 win over Norwich City in November 2005.

He was 38 years, 7 months and 4 days old.

Richard Shaw is the oldest outfield player to have played for Millwall.

He was in defence in May 2008 as the Lions lost to Swindon 2-1.

He was 39 years, 7 months and 22 days old.

Maik Taylor is top of this list.

He was a goalkeeper for several clubs during his career and played in the Premier League, with Millwall seeing him right at the end of his playing days.

In September 2012 he was 41 years and 14 days old when the Lions lost 2-0 to Cardiff City.
