Seagulls boss Chris Hughton will already be recording his summer transfer targets, as the Sussex-based outfit prepare for their first season in the top-flight for thirty years.

The 58-year-old will most definitely want to strengthen his defence, but at the same time, keep as much of the current squad as possible to breed that successful momentum in their Premier League campaign.

Following the news of Brighton & Hove Albion being linked with this player, this is why they should acquire £5.10 million-rated defender Carl Jenkinson’s signature to enhance their defence next year and maintain their status in the division.

The right-back arrived at Arsenal six years ago from Charlton Athletic, who at the time were in League One, but hasn’t quite fulfilled his potential expected by the north London giants.

He was heavily criticised for his performance in the Gunners’ 8-2 defeat to Manchester United and has seemignly not recovered – Jenkinson will be searching for pastures new in the summer transfer window and the Amex Stadium is the ideal destination.

The 25-year-old may be on the expensive side, especially for the Seagulls who have never been a club to financially splash the cash on signings, however, his record this year has been impeccable.

Carl Jenkinson has found minutes in the top-flight hard to come by but it has been for the second team that has seen him become an impressive, underrated defender north of the River Thames.

He’s also shown his capability at full-back during loan two loan stints at West Ham United, the most recent wasn’t helped by an ongoing injury problem.

Bruno Saltor has been a very influential player in Brighton’s success this season but at the age of 36, manager Hughton may want to look for a defender who is abundant in energy and bags of pace.

Brighton & Hove Albion fans, is the price tag out of your range? Would you even welcome him to the south coast? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
