Norwich City look like they might be putting an unexpected promotion charge together this season, driven by the irrepressible Teemu Pukki and Onel Hernandez.

Having lost key players in the summer, James Maddison especially, few expected Daniel Farke to be in touch of the play off race, even at this early stage.

They've surprised many this season already, helped by loan signing Jordan Rhodes and a new found steel which wasn't as evident last season.

Recruitment was limited in the summer as the reality of another year outside the top flight bit hard, but they've certainly done enough to suggest they're going to be a force to be reckoned with.

They've been helped by some players who arrived under the radar, players who didn't come with high expectations or big reputations. One such player from their Premier League days kicks off our look at four of the worst Norwich signings of the last five years.

van Wolfswinkel was a bug-money buy from Sporting Lisbon when the Canaries last went up into the Premier League and at first, he looked as though he might be an impressive capture.

He played 25 times in the Premier League, scoring once as the canaries were relegated. Hardly the saviour of Carrow Road.

The 31-year old has been a wonderful players for some of the sides he's represented, not least Northern Ireland whom he helped fire to Euro 2016.

31 appearances in three years is testament to the fact Norwich City was not one of those sides. that he played for them during his heroics for his country is even more remarkable.

He's currently doing very well at Ibrox for Steven Gerrard, much to the annoyance of Canaries fans.

Canós looked very exciting on paper and at 21-year sold there's perhaps more to come from the forward in his career. It won't be with Norwich though.

After impressing with Brentford on loan, Norwich paid £2.5m to Liverpool for his services. it wasn't money well spent.

Three Championship games and one season later, he left for Brentford having failed to make his mark on the Norwich side.

£7m. Let that sink in. Norwich paid £7m for Yanic Wildschut, a player with no international experience and as it turned out, little to offer them.

He's started 13 league games, come off the bench in another 12 but has never begun to live up to his huge price tag.

The likelihood is they'll get little return on that investment either.
