Daniel Stendel has got Barnsley playing nice football in League One, operating a pressing game favoured by his fellow countryman Jurgen Klopp.

Whilst he had little knowledge of the third tier, his methods are proving to be effective and he's doing it with much of the squad available last season.

Their recent form has included some fine wins, none more so than the 4-0 victory against Peterborough, a game in which many of those who started shone.

That is in sharp contrast to some of the players who have appeared at Barnsley over the last five seasons. They've had some flops, huge disappointments and some players who were just pointless signings.

We've waded through their transfer dealings over the last five years to bring you the worst Barnsley signings from that period.

The Benin international came from Paris St Germain and would surely be a star of the future. He was tutored at Bordeaux and appeared 16 times for PSG's B side. High hopes indeed.

He flopped at Oakwell, never looking up to the rigours of the English game. He's currently at Yeovil and whilst he's still of an age where he can improve, few Barnsley fans will recall him fondly.

The QPR defender cost the Tykes almost half a million pounds when he signed in 2016. That would be around £100,000 for each of his starts in a Barnsley shirt.

He wasn't a success and eventually departed for Colchester United. A further four starts for them ended with a move to St Mirren.

Wayne's brother was signed in 2013, right on the cusp of our five-year limit, but he was never a success at Oakwell.

He didn't play once and ended up travelling the lower league circuit with Bury, Chester, Wrexham, Guiseley and Barrow.

Terrible business.

Dale Jennings was once the bright young thing of the English game, leaving Tranmere as a teenager for Bayern Munich. He seemingly had the world at his feet.

He returned to the UK with Barnsley but never lived up to the promise. He did start 33 league matches, making 14 appearances from the bench and scoring four times.

However, at 25 he fell out of football and hasn't had a club since 2016.
