QPR are a club which have been fluctuating between the Championship and Premier League for a sustained period of time now, and have just come out of a season of mid-table obscurity.

If Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is to take the Rangers back to the pinnacle of English football, he would have to make some shrewd signings in the transfer market, and also keep onto some of his best players.

In this article, Football League World's Jack Sharp will look at four players that have to remain at Loftus Road if QPR are to mount a promotion push next season.....

Matt Phillips

Matt Phillips is a quick, tricky winger who is essential for the R's if they are to move onto better things next season.

Since Phillips signed for QPR in 2013, he has made 46 appearances for the club - scoring 6 goals. The most famous of these was a wonder strike at Selhurst Park, in a Premier League game.

Although Phillips represented England at youth levels, he has represented Scotland at senior level, and is a player that QPR will need to keep if they are to have a high placed finish next term.

Tjarron Chery

Chery is a 28-year-old attacking midfielder who signed for QPR last summer from Dutch side FC Groningen, on a three year deal.

Although Chery has been a massive part of the season, he has been utilised from the bench a number of times, and if QPR are going to mount a promotion push he will need to start games and remain fit.

Chery has played 34 times over the course of last season, scoring 10 goals, which is a very good return for a midfielder; the Dutchman will be essential at Loftus Road next term.

Massimo Luongo

Massimo Luongo is an Australian international who anchors the midfield for the R's.

Since signing in 2015, Luongo has made 30 appearances for QPR, and although he hasn't scored a goal, he has been a vital part of the side.

Luongo has previously played for the likes of Tottenham and Swindon Town, and has represented his nation 19 times, scoring four goals.

Alex Smithies

Since becoming QPR's number one goalkeeper earlier on in the season, the 25 year old has put in a string of impressive performances for the West London club.

Before moving to QPR, Smithies made 247 appearances at Huddersfield Town, and he has represented England at four youth levels.

Smithies has become a vital part of Hasselbaink's squad, and would need to stay in between the sticks for QPR to achieve a high placed finish.
