Bristol City fans have been treated to some great players over the years, but also some not so good ones.

The Robins have a rich history and have played their football at Ashton Gate since 1904.

Most of their history has been spent floating between the second and third tier of the English football pyramid, but they have become a solid Championship team in the last few years.

One of the problems preventing Bristol City from making it big and winning promotion to the Premier League is the lack of a big-club feel.

Despite having a lot of fans in a large city, the Robins have never been able to keep hold of their star men in transfer windows, so are forced to recruit from far and wide with limited financial resources.

This means some signings are great, but some are truly depressing to look back on.

Here at FLW, we look at some signings that haven't worked out for the Robins, identifying THREE...

Stephen Pearson was a great player at Derby County – he scored the goal to take them to the Premier League, so definitely was the sort who performed in big games.

He was bought to bring much-needed experience and cutting edge to a side seriously lacking it, but did none of that in an injury-hit spell that had actually started well.

He left the club to join Motherwell, and then made a weird move to Atletico Kolkata in India, showing how his career has spiraled.

Sean Dyche may be highly respected in the world of management for what he has done at Burnley, but prior to this, he was a massive flop at Bristol City.

He joined the club in 1997 after helping third-tier Chesterfield to the FA Cup semi-finals, but was the scapegoat at Ashton Gate after Bristol City struggled in the second tier.

Stern John joined the Robins from Southampton to help a club in desperate need of goals. After 24 appearances, the Trinidad international left after scoring just two goals.

A truly forgettable signing for City.

After being courted by a host of clubs, Bas Savage joined the club on a short-term contract.

He was voted in a ‘worst XI ever’ on a Bristol City forum and his time at the club is depressing to look back on for Robins supporters.
