Fratton Park is one of the most popular grounds for away supporters in English football. A throwback to yesteryear, the charismatic stadium has hosted its fair share of great games over the years since it opened all the way back in 1899.

Following their financial difficulties, lower league sides from across the country got the chance to visit one of English football's most atmospheric stadiums with most raising their games whenever they visited the South Coast.

With Portsmouth flying high at the top of League One, it may not be too long until we see Fratton Park return to host some of the country's biggest clubs.

Portsmouth will be hoping to return to the higher divisions of English football following their devastating financial difficulties that began after the historical FA Cup win in 2008.

The club record goalscorer Peter Harris was a one-club man, born in the city itself. Having scored a total of 193 goals in 479 games for Pompey during his 14-year spell at the club you'll do well to find a more highly regarded footballer amongst Portsmouth fans.

Still remaining as one of the most capped players, Jack Weddle or "Steamboat Weddle" as he was affectionately known was a Pompey player who scored 184 times for the club. In later life he went on to be a coach of the famous Blackburn side who won the FA Cup in 1960.

Guy Whttingham scored 115 goals in all competitions during multiple spells that spanned 3 decades. Nicknamed "Corporal Punishment" Whittingham went on to manage Pompey for a year between November 2012 - November 2013.

Nwankwo Kanu is one of the most skilled forwards we have seen in the Premiership. Although he may not have had the most glittering career for Portsmouth, he scored the winning goal in the 2008 FA Cup final which is still regarded by Pompey fans as one of the club's best ever days.
