When players return to their former employer, it often doesn't work out for whatever reason and that is why a lot of clubs, such as Newcastle United, are often put off swooping for an ex-player.

However, as the Magpies prepare for life back in the top-flight, they need to start bringing in more equipped signings who are capable of taking the Championship title winners up the table.

This is why manager Rafa Benitez should reunite £4.25 million-rated right-back Mathieu Debuchy with the Toon Army, as he's definitely up for the job to solidifying the club's Premier League status next year.

The 31 year-old is currently playing for Arsenal, although his time in north London hasn't gone to plan since switching Tyneside for the capital in the summer of 2014.

Debuchy has been struck off by injury in recent seasons and lack minutes on the pitch has meant he's fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates; as a result, the Frenchman has been rumoured with a departure in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The former international earned himself a move to the top-flight giants via his impressive form at Newcastle United earlier in his career.

Mathieu Debuchy was initially brought to the north-east in January 2013 for an undisclosed fee from Lille, but his fine string of performances meant the Magpies would lose their defender to the Gunners just eighteen months after his arrival in England.

With one competitive appearance this campaign, it's time he moved on and there's nowhere better for him to sign than Newcastle - already a trusted footballer meaning it wouldn't take much to win over the supporters.

Newcastle United fans, is the right-back position somewhere that needs strengthening? Would you welcome Debuchy back? Let us hear your thoughts in the comments below!
