Theo Robinson is likely to be facing an uncertain summer after his recent loan spell in League Two.

He’s been farmed out on loan by parent club Southend, having always found himself on the periphery of the squad since his move from Lincoln City.

He’s been close to leaving on occasions, but has remained at Roots Hall and fought for his place. This January he chose to go to Swindon Town, the 15th club of his career.

Whilst at Swindon, he’s impressed immensely. He’s formed part of Richie Wellens revolution, the early, embryonic form of a possible play-off chasing squad. In 14 starts he’s netted five goals, making him the joint second highest scorer at the County Ground.

Whilst he’s been enjoying a purple patch in Wiltshire, his parent club have tumbled down the League One table. Manager Chris Powell has gone and going into the final day, they need a win to secure their status in the third tier.

If they lose to Sunderland, then a Plymouth draw would relegate them. If they were to draw, wins for Plymouth or Scunthorpe, as well as Walsall, would also see them drop into League Two.

Robinson must be seriously considering his options. He’s been looking for regular matches having started just 23 times for Southend in over two seasons at Roots Hall. Since getting the game time he requires, he’s grown in confidence and seems happy at Swindon.

Will he look for a summer move? His contract is not up for renewal this summer and he’s due to remain with the club until 2020, but the lack of game time will be a big factor in any decision to force a move.

It might be the Southend door is left open for him. If they come down then he’ll be at the level he’s thrived in since his loan move, meaning he might be a more attractive prospect.

With Southend not showing faith in him up until now and Ritchie Wellens doing just that, will the former Derby County man be eager to seal a switch away from his parent club?

It promises to be an interesting time for Robinson as the season draws to a close this weekend.
