It has been a quite marvellous season for Sheffield Wednesday so far, with the club fully expected to seal a play-off spot over the next few weeks, and take their shot at returning to the Premier League for the first time since the turn of the millennium.

New manager Carlos Carvalhal has been backed by the club's new owners in the transfer market, and that policy appears to have paid off massively.

The Portuguese manager has introduced a flowing style of football the fans have not seen for a long time down at Hillsborough, and spirits are the highest they have been in years on the stands.

However, as with every club, there are always likely to be lows during the season. With Wednesday, there are not too many moments which stand out as being bad this year, so choosing three is pretty tough indeed.

So, here, in the opinion of FLW writer Lee Connor, are THREE of Sheffield Wednesdays worst moments this season.....

Forestieri double red card

Fernando Forestieri3

The little Italian striker was sent off in consecutive weeks, first being shown a red in a 1-0 defeat away to Preston North End, before just over a week later at Hull City, he saw red again in controversial fashion.

It was a bitter blow for the Owls and their star striker, who despite seeing his team grind out a 0-0 draw, was right to feel hard done too.

Michael Dawson clearly caught the Italian, even admitting it in the post match interview.

It gave the striker something of an unfair reputation, although he does not seem to have let it affect him, as he bagged the winner at Huddersfield last week and set up Ross Wallace during midweek against Blackburn.

Warnock returns to haunt

This has to be in for Owls fans, as seeing former Sheffield United manager and fan Neil Warnock win at Hillsborough, is never a good sight.

Warnock saw his new Rotherham United team run away 1-0 winners, thanks to a first half Matt Derbyshire goal.

It was a bitter blow for the Owls, who had been doing well and were even casting an eye on the automatic promotion places.

Many said before the game it just had to be Warnock, and it proved right as the former Blades manager took away all 3 points in a close encounter down at S6.

Defeat to Charlton ends undefeated run

charltonnnn

A 3-1 defeat away to lowly Charlton put an end to an Owls run which had stretched 11 games without defeat, including 7 victories.

It was a hard defeat to take, against a team with little fight or quality in them, and was a bit of a wake up call for the Owls players who may have thought things were becoming a tad too easy.

The result was part of the Owls worst run of the season too, which saw them win only 1 game in 8 following that 11 game unbeaten run.

This run of draws and defeats probably ended the Owls hopes of an automatic promotion place, and will be something come the end of the season they will look back on with frustration.
