Leeds United have had a difficult season down to their boardroom controversy and the subsequent blundering on the pitch.

Massimo Cellino is the controversial chairman who nearly sold the club to a fan group, but pulled out at the last moment.

His ownership has caused a factional split in the fans, with some supporting him as he has invested in the squad this season, bringing in Chris Wood, Toumani Diagouraga, Liam Bridcutt and Stuart Dallas, and has also paid off a lot of the club's debts.

Some disapprove of him though as his ownership disrupts on-field affairs as he sacks managers regularly, and fans feel the club can't progress with him at the helm. They struggled under Uwe Rosler earlier in the season, getting numerous thrashings, and the new signings were flopping along with the defence being terrible.

Cellino sacked Rosler and placed Steve Evans in charge, and he helped bring through the youngsters which has been their one bright spark this season.

Alex Mowatt, Lewis Cook and Charlie Taylor have been excellent as Leeds try to get them signed to new contracts.

Their form has improved and they look set for a mid table finish, but they are ending the season in sloppy fashion.

They will hope Cellino will invest in the first team squad in the summer, and they can challenge for promotion next season.

Leeds started the season badly under Rosler, but the worst moment of his reign came in their 3-0 defeat to Middlesbrough.

Expectations were high after beating MK Dons, but it got off to a bad start as David Nugent put Middlesbrough ahead after only two minutes.

Leeds were having good periods of possession but did nothing with the ball, and Middlesbrough got their second when Leeds centre back Giuseppe Bellusci scored a spectacular own goal. Diego Fabbrini capped the win off with a third after an embarrassing slip by Sol Bamba.

Leeds went on to pick just two points in their next 15 available.

Their worst display came in their first half collapse at promotion-chasing Brighton and Hove Albion back in February.

They started positively but then in 20 first half minutes, they conceded four in calamitous fashion, showing Evans had a lot of work to do with their defence.

They had not won for a month and when Tomer Hemed scored the opener, the Leeds fans were shellshocked when Brighton doubled their lead four minutes later with an own goal by Liam Cooper.

Hemed struck again before Lewis Dunk added a fourth to complete first half humiliation for Leeds, and it was very much back to the drawing board.

Leeds 1-4 Huddersfield Town

This result especially hurt Leeds as it was to their local rivals, and it was on the back of three consecutive wins.

The improvement under Evans was destroyed by Huddersfield in front of their own fans, as David Wagner's side ripped them apart.

After Stuart Dallas gave Leeds the lead, they were pegged back in ferocious fashion when Mark Hudson, Karim Matmour, Harry Bunn and Nahki Wells all scored in the second half to complete an impressive win for the Terriers.

It spelled the end of any Leeds play-off hopes and, since the defeat, they are yet to win.
