Charlton Athletic sit seven points from safety with six games left to play of the season, and manager Jose Riga has said his side going to need a ‘miracle’ if they are in hope to play football in the second tier next season.

There's been glimpses of promise in the Charlton side with Ademola Lookman being the standout player from midfield, scoring four goals in 15 appearances but after a promising start, their season has began to spiral.

Without a standout front man, battling at the bottom is always going to be a tough task and each game towards the end of the season will become a cup final for the Addicks.

They've struggled to put a run of form together all year and twice went without a win in over ten games.

After three changes in management, the Addicks are fighting for their skins. Are these Charlton’s three worst moments of the season?

January 12th - Huddersfield 5-0 Charlton

In what proved to be interim manager Karel Fraeye’s last game in charge, Charlton made the trip to West Yorkshire without a win in eight and had a point to prove.

The Addicks were ten points behind mid table Huddersfield but it looked like they were top and bottom on the day.

Mark Hudson had the ball in the net within 17 minutes and it was 2-0 by half time.

Charlton never looked like troubling and two quick-fire goals from Jamie Paterson and Duane Holmes in the 75th and 79th minute respectively, made it miserable viewing for fans who’d made the eight hour round trip.

Reza Ghoochannejhad was then sent off just before stoppage time and hosts had time to rub salt in the wounds with Jason Davidson able to tap the ball into an empty net.

Fraeye was sacked the next day; he’d only managed 10 points from 13 games in charge.

January 14th – Hull 6-0 Charlton

In fairness to Riga, he’d only been in charge of the club for two minutes before this fixture, which was testing on paper to say the least.

If you’ve just taken over a club, players want to impress their new boss and put in a blinding performance, proving they should be given a starting place; the manager would have undoubtedly told them that before the whistle.

It looked liked they’d just had a quick shower from the Huddersfield game and returned to the pitch for another go. Abel Hernandez was devastating on the day and the Uruguayan had two in the first 16 minutes. Robert Snodgrass added one on 33’ and Hernandez had completed his hat-trick by 39’.

4-0 down at half time and it was only 13 second half minutes until Mohamed Diame made it five. 21-year-old Isaac Hayden netted ten minutes before time and in three days, Charlton had conceded 11 goals in Yorkshire.

5th December - Brighton 3-2 Charlton

Travelling to a Brighton side that were unbeaten for much of the season before the fixture means this result on paper isn’t that damning at all.

But the way that Charlton lost this one embodies the Addicks' season in a nutshell.

Ademola Lookman and Reza Ghoochannejhad had the Addicks 2-0 up within five minutes of kick off and they could have had four or five, if it wasn’t for David Stockdale in the Brighton sticks.

Charlton looked like they were to record their second away win of season.

But Brighton had other plans and Manchester United loanee, James Wilson, pulled one back after a stunning solo goal just after the restart.

If it wasn’t for Patrick Bauer, Charlton may still have won this one. A moment of madness saw Bauer grab Bobby Zamora and force him to the ground while through on goal. Straight red.

After battering the Charlton goal it wasn’t until the 83rd minute the Seagulls found an equaliser, Bobby Zamora had a tap in from four yards.

Charlton heads dropped and Tomer Hemed had the ball in the net for the winner with less then two minutes after Zamora’s effort.

Yet another grim day for the Charlton away end.
