A hard article to do as Brighton and Hove Albion have had a magnificent season under manager Chris Hughton as they chase promotion to the Premier League.

Last season, they sold Leonardo Ulloa to Leicester City and never replaced him, only just escaping relegation and sitting expectations low for this season.

Manager Chris Hughton has barely spent any money, bringing in Israeli striker Tomer Hemed along with the experienced Bobby Zamora.

Also, talented defenders like Connor Goldson and Uwe Hunemeier have been added along with the experienced full-back Liam Rosenior. Richie Towell, Anthony Knockaert and Jamie Murphy have also been added, along with James Wilson on loan from Manchester United.

Hughton has successfully built a promotion-challenging squad on a shoestring budget, and they have been this season's surprise package. Ever since Kazenga LuaLua scored the winner in their opener against Nottingham Forest, they have looked unstoppable, and went on a 21 game unbeaten streak before promotion rivals Middlesbrough ended it.

After a small blip, they got back on track and have been resurgent in recent weeks - the latest a great win over Birmingham City on Tuesday.

Lewis Dunk and Goldson have been great at the back, with Bruno solid at right back.

Also, Beram Kayal in midfield has been outstanding, along with Dale Stephens, and they have brilliantly supported the free scoring Hemed, whilst wingers Murphy and Knockaert have been outstanding.

They sit two points off top with six games to go and, if they keep their momentum going, they may get a top two place.

Here though, FootballLeagueWorld writer Michael Hasan identifies the THREE worst moments of Brighton's season so far...

Brighton 0-3 Middlesbrough

Brighton were on an amazing 21 game unbeaten streak when Middlesbrough arrived before Christmas and, even though Brighton had some players missing through injury, they were hopeful of a result.

But promotion rivals Middlesbrough swept them aside with goals from Kike, Christian Stuani and Daniel Ayala easing them to victory, sending Boro to the top of the table.

Many thought it would cause Brighton to bottle it and slide away.

Initially they did, with defeats to Ipswich Town and Wolves, but got back on track with a great win at Bristol City.

Brighton struggled to deal with Middlesbrough's intense promotion game, and will have to play better in a potential promotion decider on the final day of the season if they are to go up.

Three consecutive defeats

A lot of people thought Brighton were punching well above their weight during their rise to the top, and when Middlesbrough thrashed them 3-0 at the AMEX, most neutrals thought Brighton would slide out of contention.

Initially it seemed true, as they followed it up with a draw to Brentford, but then lost three games in a row, including two home defeats to Ipswich and Wolves.

They also lost at Rotherham United, and in these three games they didn't score a single goal, and most assumed their promotion push was over.

Yet they followed up the Rotherham defeat with four straight wins to get back on track.

Cardiff City 4-1 Brighton

It's hard to pick out another bad moment for Brighton, as they have only lost five games all season, but the 4-1 defeat away at Cardiff City was quite humbling.

On the back of four straight defeats and a good point at Hull City, they would have been confident against a steadily-improving Cardiff.

But they were taken by surprise as they went 3-0 down in 30 minutes, with Peter Whittingham, Anthony Pilkington and Lex Immers scoring.

Brighton replied with a Stephens goal before Whittingham completed the rout.

Cardiff used this win to push for the play-offs, which may still happen, but Brighton failed to let this hinder them, as they haven't lost a game since then, winning four of their next seven games.
