Birmingham City have not had many bad moments since Gary Rowett came in two seasons ago after leaving Burton Albion.

They went from relegation strugglers to play-off hopefuls, as the former Burton manager has guided the club up the Sky Bet Championship, bringing in quality players like Jon Miquel Toral.

The Blues sit ninth in the Championship and, while they will likely miss out on the play-offs, Rowett can be happy with his team's performances this season.

Considering two seasons ago they survived on goal difference alone, anything better is a positive.

However, there were moments this season which the players will regret.

Despite their strong season, they will be disappointed that they are unlikely to make the top six. From a neutral point of view, their season has been another good building block in their bid to gain promotion to the Premier League, the players however may feel differently.

Patchy form towards the end of 2015 saw Birmingham drop plenty of points, while their 2016 form hasn't been great either, with only six wins in 17 games.

Key losses against play-off rivals alongside dropped points against relegation battlers have ensured that Birmingham have had a nearly season.

Here, FootballLeagueWorld writer Rafie Thompson identifies the THREE worst moments of Birmingham's season so far...

The loss to Aston Villa

It is not often that the Second City derby is played out.

The last time Aston Villa and Birmingham City met before this season's League Cup tie was in 2011, where they drew 1-1 in the Premier League.

With derbies sparse between the two sides, Birmingham City fans will have felt real hurt after they lost 1-0 to their rivals in September.

It was Rudy Gestede who downed the Blues and, while the League Cup will not have been on their priority list, Birmingham fans will have been disappointed to lose such a long-awaited match.

The only positive is that they will have two games against them next season where they can exact revenge on the Villians.

A horrible November

After a really strong start to the season where City only lost twice in 12 games, their form around the month of November plummeted.

They picked up one win in a poor stretch which lasted from the end of October all the way to the 18th of December, where they finally picked up form with a win against Cardiff City.

City lost six games in total between October, November and December and, considering their excellent start to the season, it was a sharp downturn in form.

The 3-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday

Not only was the 3-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday their biggest loss of the season so far, it was against play-off rivals.

Birmingham dropped two places to tenth after the loss, while Wednesday pushed up to seventh only one point behind Ipswich Town in sixth.

A Fernando Forestieri double alongside a Kieran Lee goal consigned Birmingham to their sixth loss in 11 matches at that point.

It will have been a bad day for the fans who had travelled to Sheffield to see two play-off hopefuls contest.
