Nottingham Forest are one of the most illustrious teams in the history of English football and have had some of the best managers to ever grace the game.

Of these, Brian Clough was definitely the most notable – the legendary manager was at the club for the best part of two decades, from 1975 to 1993.

His achievements with Derby and Forest are rated amongst the greatest in football history. When at Forest, Clough achieved a double European Cup triumph.

Forest won the trophy in 1979 and 1980, being one of the only teams in history to defend Europe’s best club title.

In recent history, and realistically since Clough, Forest have been through the mill in terms of managers.

Following their drop from the Premier League, the Reds have failed to mount a real challenge to return to the top flight, and have seen some terrible managers come through the door.

Here, we look at the worst of them.

Gary Megson led the Forest team that is widely regarded as their worst in history, when the Reds were languishing in League One.

Megson left the club in 13th in League One, just four points above the drop zone, and was sacked immediately after a 3-0 defeat away at Oldham.

Philippe Montanier was also a manager that Forest fans will try to forget. The Frenchman joined during a toxic period under owner Fawaz Al Hasawi but couldn’t gel the squad as well as he would’ve hoped.

Montanier left the club following a run of just 2 points from a possible 21.

David Platt managed at the City Ground for two seasons, but had little to no success despite spending lots of money on new signings.

Platt had a few high profile spouts with players that left them to be isolated from the first team.

Platt hasn’t managed at club level in England since, although he was a coach at Manchester City under Roberto Mancini.
