Birmingham City have had a turbulent decade that has seen a number of managers come through the door.

The Blues were relegated from the Premier League after a lengthy stay in the top flight and many presumed that they would make an instant return.

That wasn’t to be, and Birmingham instead fell into the trap that many fall into by underestimating the Championship and then finding themselves stuck in the division.

They have made a couple of near attempts at promotion, but for the most part, have been a mid-table side.

Gary Rowett looked like the one to end the hurt, as he had Birmingham on form going into the Christmas period - in and around the playoffs - but he was sacked.

His replacement failed to get the best of the team and thanks to Rowett’s sacking, he had lost the dressing room before he had even started.

Here, we look at some of the worst managers in Birmingham’s history.

Agree, Blues fans, or can you think of worse? Let us know in the comments below.

Rowett was sacked to the anger of the fans as mentioned, and to add to the misery, his replacement was awful.

Gianfranco Zola, an iconic figure in the late 90s, won just two games as Birmingham fell into a relegation fight.

The Italian was understandably sacked and left with a win percentage of just 8.3%.

Lee Clark managed the club for two seasons after Chris Hughton moved on, and although he steadied the ship, he wasn’t great.

Birmingham were a club with ambitions of returning to the Premier League, but Clark failed to deliver.

Steve Cotterill was a typical example of a short-term solution. He won his first game in charge and things looked like they may be on the up, but it wasn’t to be, overall.

Cotterill was another to leave Birmingham in trouble, with Garry Monk eventually pulling Blues clear last season.
