Ahead of pre-season starting, Sunderland manager Jack Ross will be running the rule over his squad.

Having taken over from Chris Coleman in the summer ahead of their upcoming League One campaign, Ross needs to look at his squad to decide who to keep, who to sell, who to loan out and which positions need strengthening.

There will be a number of players set for the exit door this summer after failing to prevent Sunderland from relegation.

Too many players have been under-performing and they need to be axed in a major shake-up this summer.

As well as the fact that the results on the pitch have not been up to scratch, high wages will also be a concern, especially for those who were with Sunderland when they were playing Premier League football the season before last.

With that to be considered, here are three players that have doubtful Sunderland futures ahead of next season.

Ross will know that both senior goalkeepers - Steele and Robbin Ruiter - had poor seasons.

The amount of points that these two cost Sunderland damaged any survival hopes and one or both could be axed ahead of the League One season.

Defender Kone is earning high wages and needs to be offloaded.

The powerful Ivory Coast international centre-half is unlikely to be attracting Everton or West Ham any more but he will have a potential buyer out there somewhere.

Another high-earner that needs shipping is Ndong.

The 23-year-old has just returned from a loan spell at Watford - where he did not even make one appearance - and a move to Torino has fallen through so Sunderland need to start looking for other interested clubs.
