It may have only been a 1-1 draw against Burnley U23s, but it was an afternoon of good news for Sheffield Wednesday.

As well as picking up a result over the Premier League side's academy side, the Owls had plenty to shout about with a number of first team stars featuring.

Garry Monk's side have been doing excellently so far this season after picking up 24 points from 15 fixtures, a run which has seen them move into seventh place in the Championship.

However with just one win in their last four games it could be time for Monk to freshen up his starting XI for the clash with Swansea City this weekend.

Here's a look at some of the stars who may have played their way into contention.

Jordan Thorniley

Despite making over 30 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday, the young defender has been limited to only EFL Cup appearances so far this term.

Thorniley looked impressive against the Clarets and will be hoping to put the 90 minutes gained against Burnley towards a push for the first team in Championship fixtures coming up.

Games will start coming thick and fast as we roll into December and Garry Monk will be thankful for having depth ready and available in his squad.

Tom Lees

It's been a tough season for the Sheffield Wednesday captain who has been limited to just five appearances this term.

A hamstring injury has seen him sat on the sidelines since the end of August, something which has been a huge blow to the Owls.

However the 1-1 draw with Burnley U23s saw the defender make his long-awaited return from injury as he played an hour of the development clash.

The weekend's game with Swansea City will probably come too soon for Lees but the Owls' supporters will be looking forward to his return in the coming weeks.

Jordan Rhodes

The striker is having a torrid time at the moment after falling massively out of favour at Hillsborough.

Rhodes has made just three Championship appearances and two EFL Cup appearances to far this term without a goal to his name.

It seems that the writing is on the wall for the former Middlesbrough striker, but with a goal against Burnley U23s then there's a question to ask regarding whether he could still contribute towards the Owls' push for promotion.
