Having finished 20 points adrift of safety in the Premier League last season, it is fair to say that Huddersfield Town are in need of a major rebuild this summer ahead of their return to the second tier.

Tasked with the unenviable job of transforming the Terriers' fortunes, Jan Siewert will be aiming to build the foundations needed for them to succeed in the 2019/20 campaign.

Given the nature of the Yorkshire-based outfit's relegation, the last thing that anyone associated with the club wants is a continuation of the doom and gloom which has engulfed the John Smith's Stadium in recent months.

Therefore, in order to take a definitive step in the right direction, it is imperative that Siewert employs this particular three-point plan.

Sell Aaron Mooy

Although Siewert will be looking to add some real quality in the transfer market between now and August, he may first have to sell Aaron Mooy in order to raise the funds needed to re-invest in his squad.

Whereas cutting ties with the Australian would be controversial given the impact that he has had for the Terriers over the past three years, it may end up being beneficial for both parties.

Arguably too good to be playing at Championship level, Mooy will be keen to extend his stay in the top-flight and therefore could command a big fee which in turn would help Huddersfield with their recruitment this summer.

Build around Karlan Grant

Since joining the Terriers in January, Karlan Grant has been one of their most impressive players with his performance against West Ham United illustrating just how much talent he has at his disposal.

Having already taking his tally for the club to four goals, the former Charlton Athletic forward has all the ingredients needed to set the second tier alight next season.

Yet in order for Grant to maximise his potential, it is essential that Huddersfield build a team that plays directly to his strengths as a failure to do so could result in an underwhelming campaign.

Put their trust in the academy

With the Terriers facing an uncertain future due to a change in ownership, it may be worth Siewert looking towards their academy stars for inspiration.

The likes of Matty Daly and Aaron Rowe showed promising signs during their cameo appearances in the Premier League last season and therefore will be aiming to become regular members of the first team squad over the coming years.

Given just how big of a success that Philip Billing has had since graduating from the youth ranks, there is no reason why the aforementioned duo cannot follow in his footsteps and lead Huddersfield into a new era.
