It seems likely that Steve Bruce will be Sheffield Wednesday's next permanent manager with the former Aston Villa man heavily linked with the role.

The Owls relieved Jos Luhukay of his duties after a run of poor form earlier this month and it seems safe to say that that was the best call for all with results picking up for the club since.

Bruce will be looking to build on that, then, and get the team going the right way up the division with their first XI on paper particularly strong.

He'll be aiming to try and add to the squad, though, as they look for a brighter 2019 and it remains to be seen just who he looks to bring in to the side.

That said, then, we've been thinking about that and reckon these three players could be a decent way of kicking off his tenure at the Hillsborough club...

Bridcutt is a good player that would boost the strength of the Wednesday squad if he was to join.

He's barely playing for Nottingham Forest and will be itching to move on, Bruce should offer him a lifeline and get him playing at Hillsborough.

Defensive recruits may be looked at by Bruce for the Owls' squad and Lindsay might be worth a punt.

He's a good young centre-back that is playing well for Barnsley in League One and he should be able to make the step back up into the Championship too.

Bonatini has struggled at Wolves this season and isn't playing much.

We know he can score goals at Championship level, though, and if Bruce could get him firing the Owls would start climbing the table.

A risk, yes, but a loan deal could be worth considering.
