Wolves struggled last season which was perhaps unsurprising when you consider the transfer window they had in the summer.

They made some poor decisions like letting Sako go to Crystal Palace and not replacing him and they also failed to replace Nouha Dicko who suffered a season ending injury.

Also in January, they lost star striker Benik Afobe too Bournemouth leaving them with no established goalscorers.

Replacements like Joe Mason and Adam Le Fondre struggled massively to get a run of goal scoring going and in the end midfielders James Henry and David Edwards were top scorers.

Also the defence was very inconsistent with the loss of Stearman to Fulham being really felt, but the development of Iorfa at right back has been encouraging.

If Wolves want to make some serious progress next season they need to sign some strikers and cover at the back whilst keeping hold of key players like Dominic Iorfa.

Here are THREE under-appreciated players currently at Wolves.....

Jack Price

Wolves fans were very grateful for his contribution last season, despite only playing 27 games, he showed a lot more desire than most of the midfield.

Price only scored once but overall his attacking play was very positive and fans made it clear they want him starting regularly next season.

His defensive work was very good as well forcing Coady out of the squad, showing very good work rate and was a real engine in midfield.

Some fans are unhappy with McDonald being omitted though as Price, Coady and Saville were all defensive so a partnership between Price and McDonald is likely next season.

Matt Doherty

Probably the most consistent player Wolves had last season was Irish full back Matt Doherty, who helped fill in for the departed Richard Stearman.

He was simply outstanding at the back bursting forward at every opportunity, and defending well and at the end of the season picked up all three major Player awards.

He also earned his call up to the Republic of Ireland squad.

His determination to make it work at Wolves was admirable as he was in the last year of his contract and Doherty also scored a 35 yard scorcher against Fulham to get Wolves Goal of the season.

He is now a fixture in the Wolves XI for Kenny Jackett next season.

David Edwards

Wolves made a serious blunder in the summer getting rid of their best attacking talent with Sako leaving, the injured Dicko not getting replaced and Afobe was sold in January.

After Le Fondre and Mason failed to fill the void as well as Zyro it fell on to the midfielders to get the goals for Wolves so they could stay up.

And with 10 goals, David Edwards was joint top scorer with Benik Afobe, with the excellent James Henry not far behind.
