The 2015/16 SkyBet Championship season was one of delight for the majority of fans at Deepdale.

Their campaign perhaps surprised a few fans in the league who were tipping them for a lower table finish. However, as it finished, Preston North End managed to consolidate an impressive 11th place with 62 points from their 46 league games.

The Championship side finished above the likes of Queen's Park Rangers, Leeds United and Nottingham Forest - all sides who most certainly have a more well know history than that of Preston North End's.

As a result, it is clear to see that the current squad is flourishing under their boss, Simon Grayson.

It seems that the team is steering the club in the right direction and that will certainly please everyone involved with Preston North End Football Club.

Players such as Daniel Johnson were commended at the back end of last season for their performances on the pitch. Johnson, himself, managed to score nine goals for Simon Grayson's side as well as assist a further three as well.

Understandably, centre back, Bailey Wright, was also appreciated to large extents for his defensive work on the pitch last season. A real development began to take place in the 23 year old's game and he is now one of the side's highest rated players.

However, the club also has many players have perhaps gone unnoticed in such a high achieving side over the last season.

Football League World writer Reece Chambers identifies THREE under-appreciated players at Preston North End...

Alan Browne

Alan BrowneAlan Browne

At the age of 21, Browne has many years ahead of him in order to receive much more appreciation from the Deepdale faithful.

His performances last season were nothing short of impressive as he totted up an appearance total of 36 in the SkyBet Championship.

The youngster also managed to net three times for the Championship but perhaps the lack of goals is where some fans miss his contribution to the team.

Of course, goals are important in any game of football but Browne is a player who is tasked with holding a more defensive role in the midfield.

Therefore, appreciation for Browne may be limited due to his lack of contribution in the attacking third of the pitch.

Greg Cunningham

Greg Cunninghammsms

Once on the books at Manchester City, Cunningham would be forgiven for thinking that his future could have been in the top tier of English football.

However, Cunningham has prove to be an invaluable member to the Preston side since joining the club in 2015 from Bristol City

The 25-year-old goes about his business both efficiently and quietly. Making 43 appearances in the league last season typifies the idea that Cunningham is a dependable left back who is more or less always on the starting team sheet.

Therefore, he may not always receive the appreciation he deserves and is more of a player who is relied on and expected to do his duty as well as he does each week.

Paul Huntington

Paul Huntingtond

With Bailey Wright proving to be such a valuable asset to the Preston North End defence, Paul Huntington can often be overlooked.

The 28-year-old appeared 38 times last season for the Lilywhites and was certainly one of the main reasons the Lancashire side conceded just 45 goals over the whole campaign.

Much like Cunningham, the centre back goes about his business very discretely and therefore can be slightly under-appreciated as a result.
