Brighton had an amazing season under Chris Hughton this season, with them nearly reaching the Premier League despite not spending much at all.

In the summer, Hughton brought in talented Israeli striker Tomer Hemed along with Jamie Murphy and Gaetan Bong who all had good seasons.

As they continued to strengthen throughout the season they signed talented wingers Anthony Knockaert and Jiri Skalak in January, and brought in Steve Sidwell on loan plus talented Manchester United youngster James Wilson.

Brighton though started the season in impressive fashion going on the longest unbeaten run in England, with a 21 game unbeaten streak before being humbled by Middlesbrough.

They lost a few more but it didn't rock their confidence and after going 6 games without a win they only lost 21 more game all season.

They won 13 of their remaining 20 games but a 1-1 draw on the final day against Middlesbrough was not enough to send them up.

They buckled under pressure in the playoffs losing 3-1 to Sheffield Wednesday but overall it was a brilliant season for Brighton.

Hemed top scored but was well helped out by Zamora and wingers Knockaert and Murphy. The midfield partnership of Kayal and Stephens was outstanding and the defensive partnership of Dunk and Goldson was outstanding plus full-backs Bruno and Rosenior were very good.

Here are THREE under-appreciated Brighton players......

Gaetan Bong

Gaetan Bongmb

Bong was outstanding at left back for Brighton this season until the injury he suffered injury in late October, and he never really recovered.

He had formed a very good partnership with Kazenga LuaLua on the left flank building up a telepathic communication with the winger, showing excellent work rate and pace down the wing.

Rosenior was decent cover but not as good as Bong, and Brighton will hope to have him back next season, whilst Brighton also went undefeated with Bong at left back last season.

Dale Stephens

The driving force for Brighton last season was the excellent midfield partnership of Stephens and Kayal.

Kayal broke up play excellently and earned a lot of plaudits for his display, but Stephens often went unnoticed with Kayal voted as Brighton's Player of the Year.

Yet Stephens finished higher in the Championship Player of the Year vote and also scored 7 goals and did some excellent defensive work.

Also Stephens showed impressive intent when going forward and will once again be vital alongside Kayal next season.

Connor Goldson

Not an awful lot was expected of Goldson when he joined from Shrewsbury, even after winning Player of the Year there and making the Team of the Year in League 1.

Goldson though was absolutely superb and alongside Dunk formed one of the best partnerships in the Championship, with Lewis Dunk conceding only 42 goals.

Goldson is towering at the back and was better defensively than Dunk was, and is dangerous fro, set pieces and will be even better next season.
