Despite the disappointment of the defeat to Swansea City at the weekend, Leeds United fans can go into the first international break of the season feeling optimistic about the campaign ahead.

The Whites have made a positive start to their second season under Marcelo Bielsa and are currently third in the Championship table, after winning four of their opening six league matches.

Some players will be pleased with their early-season performances, while others will be somewhat disappointed and will feel that they have a point to prove going into the break.

Here are three Leeds players who need to seriously step up their game after the international break...

Jack Clarke

When Leeds announced that Jack Clarke would be returning to Elland Road on loan this season, it seemed like a brilliant move.

The 18-year-old burst onto the scene last season and was able to establish himself as one of the brightest young talents in the Championship.

However, Clarke has really struggled to make an impact since his return to Elland Road.

He hasn't even been included in the squad for the last four games in the Championship and his performances in the Carabao Cup have been underwhelming.

He'll definitely feel that he has a point to prove, but it's going to be very difficult for him to force his way into the starting line-up ahead of the likes of Pablo Hernandez, Jack Harrison and Helder Costa.

He needs to seriously step up his game after the international break. If he doesn't, Spurs could really regret sending him back to Leeds on loan.

Mateusz Klich

This might seem like a bit of a strange one, as Mateusz Klich has been an important player for Leeds so far this season and has started every game for the Whites in the Championship.

The 29-year-old was an extremely influential player for Leeds last season, scoring ten goals and providing nine assists in all competitions. He was able to transform himself into one of the best midfielders in the Championship.

Klich has started seven of Leeds' eight matches so far this season and while his performances have been good, he's yet to recapture the kind of form goalscoring he showed last season.

His only goal so far this season came against Salford City in the Carabao Cup, but by this time last season he'd already scored three times in the Championship.

While his performances have not been bad at all, Klich will probably feel that he has a point to prove when he returns to Elland Road after international duty with Poland.

Barry Douglas

After joining from Wolves last summer, Barry Douglas was an important player for Leeds last season, even though he struggled at times with injury problems.

The 30-year-old has made five appearances for Leeds so far this season and his performances have been decent, but they could have been better.

Douglas is the best and most experienced left-back at Leeds, but he's yet to show that so far this season.

He missed a couple of games through injury but he returned to the bench against Swansea at the weekend, with Ezgjan Alioski starting head of him at left-back.

Douglas will be determined to impress Marcelo Bielsa after the international break and reclaim his place in the side.
