Bristol City suffered at the hands of Premier League outfit Hull City on Tuesday night with a 2-1 loss at Ashton Gate in the fourth round of the EFL Cup.
Goals from Harry Maguire and Michael Dawson put the Tigers into the quarter finals of the competition, and the Robins midfielder Lee Tomlin pulled one back in injury time but it was too late for the Championship side.
The first half was far from entertaining, with Bristol City playing some neat tidy football, but Maguire was lurking at the back post – latching onto Ryan Mason’s corner to head the ball beyond Richard O’Donnell.
Hull’s goal gave the Premier League confidence in the second half and they put Bristol City on the back foot just after half time with Michael Dawson powering in another header from a corner.
The Tigers really came alive in the second half with Abel Hernandez and Adama Diomande causing them problems.
Lee Tomlin fired in a low shot in the bottom right corner in stoppage time to give Bristol City a lifeline, but it was too late and Hull City were victorious.
